The Ready Kindergartener
We base all our programs on a central goal: to ensure Berkeley County's young children enter school physically, cognitively, socially, and emotionally prepared to learn.
South Carolina First Steps' Profile of the Ready Kindergartener defines the criteria for this. From the ability to share with others, listen to and retell stories, and sort items into categories to demonstrating an eagerness to learn, showing willingness to try new things, and using eye-hand coordination to put together a puzzle, the ready kindergartener will enter school prepared to learn and succeed not just in school, but in life. |
SPOTLIGHT
SC Early Learning Standards
Our other gold standard is the South Carolina Early Learning Standards document, which describes young children's development and learning from birth to age 5 across a number of domains. It's intended to promote development of the whole child, shared responsibility for the child's early care and education, and the importance of both play as a tool for learning and safe, caring environments for learning.
